I am really wondering how Twitter handle large volumns of requests every millisecond. Just imagine 350,000 twitter users posting one message at the same millisecond, there are total 350,000 requests to handle immediately. Let’s say Ervin Ter following Mr John Doe, once I viewing message posted by him, I am expecting to read his latest messages.

My Design

Index Server

Containing user information such as email, password and total count of message posted by each user. Because this is distributed server design to handle large scale of requests at the same time, I created a table to store server information such as IP address and database server credential information’s.  Every user’s message are storing in different servers by a user agent.

Machine A to Z

Every user’s messages are storing in the dedicated server. There are two “DEMON” who sitting to handle events, one will broadcast message to all other servers who are listening to this “DEMON”, another one will wait for new message to arrive. The relationship between users storing in ca_follow.

If you understand the concept of twitter, you probably should know the diagram design above. I am looking to hear what is your thought.

Are you facing problem when come to designing web button with colorful, solid and clean manner based on your taste? Probably you will open up software such as Photoshop or InkScape to design it. But, still very hard to design in the tools mentioned as we need to study on “How to use it to draw a button where must be in round corner, gradient, add in some icons”.

Nowadays you could easily find online tools from internet. I would like to highlight tools below which I found very useful when come to designing a web button in web 2.0 style.

Buttonator

Buttonator providing ajax functionality to generate the web button online.

MyCoolButton

MyCoolButton is another tool to generate web button. But there are many advertisement around the tool. You could try it out as the slogan written “Make your button in only 4 steps”.

Paint.NET is a free lite weight software. Normally I used it to crop image, webpage mock up and some simple stuff. Today I will write a very basic cropping function which might be helpful for you to crop an image with Paint.NET.

Step 1: Open your image file

Step 2: By using “Rectangle Select (Shortcut Key S)” then draw rectangle canvas to your desire area to crop. E.g. I wish to crop mountain head

Step 3:After you have confirm your canvas to crop, go to top menu and select “Image” -> “Crop to Selection” or you can press on shortcut key (Ctrl+Shift+X)

Step 4: I am done. I got my cropped image.

Isn’t that easy to crop an image in Paint.NET?

Which framework you prefer and why?

Personally I prefer jQuery instead of prototype. Why? Because it is more elegant and solid code. I feel it is very flexible when code with jQuery comparing to prototype.

This Dell 22″ LCD is very cheap in market nowadays as the price is only RM 849 if you order online in dell website. Very hard and troublesome to configure network sharing of a file or folder to your friend thru internet?

If yes, now Microsoft has come out a new beta program called Windows Live FolderShare which is still in beta phase. It is a program where you can share your personal libraries or even allow remote access to your destination computer desktop or laptop from any of your web browser. Believe it or not? It is real and I have test it out.

I believe you have heard of Windows Live SkyDrive, which is another also related to files. By the way, there are different between this 2 freeware. SkyDrive providing online storage of 5 GB for free to anyone. While FolderShare is providing protocol to access the files from your shared remote pc, where shared user able to access the files from web browser. Cool, right?

When you first login to new layout design, you will see layout as below:

Zone 1: New header toolbar of welcoming message

Zone 2: All of your profile shortcut area

Zone 3: Your news feed of your friends

Zone 4: Short summary widgets like your friend requests, status updates, bookmarks and birthdays

Zone 1: New features of usage of tab. Clicking on each of the tab will change the content below to the particular topic which I think is very user friendly and fast response. This is the area which I like the most with this new layout enhancement. And most important, there is a cool nice place for me to enter “What are you doing right now?”. It is similar to twitter. If compare this short with twitter, I still prefer twitter. Why? Because twitter is supporting anywhere.
